Harvest

Harvest started as an internal tool at a web design agency in New York. The two owners were looking for a better way to track their hours, and built it themselves. It has been a product in its own right since 2006. The idea is still the same: you track hours, and a few clicks turn those hours into an invoice.

Harvest is now owned by Bending Spoons. According to its own site, more than 70,000 customers use Harvest. Together they have logged 4.5 billion hours.

You track time with a timer or in a weekly view. You add expenses with a photo of the receipt. At the end of the month you turn those hours and expenses into an invoice, with recurring invoices and reminders when payment is late. Clients pay online through Stripe, by credit card or ACH, or through PayPal. Online payments have been part of Harvest since 2010.

Projects can have a fixed fee or be billed by the hour. You set a budget per project and see how much of it has been used. In Enterprise you also see the profit per project.

Reports are where the plans differ most. On Free and Teams you can create at most 4 custom reports. On Enterprise there is no limit. Since summer 2026 the 100-row limit in time reports is gone, so you can run large exports in one go.

Teams adds reports on the whole team, with capacity per person and rates and costs per employee. Enterprise goes further, with profitability reports, timesheet approval and a log of who changed what. It also includes SSO with SAML, although you cannot use that during the trial. For an agency that wants to know whether it makes money on each client, this is the plan to look at.

Harvest connects with a lot of work software. There are integrations with Asana, Jira, Slack, Trello, Basecamp, ClickUp, Notion, Linear and monday.com, and with calendars such as Google Calendar and Outlook. With the browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Edge, you start a timer from a task in one of those apps.

For bookkeeping you connect QuickBooks Online or Xero. Those integrations are part of the paid plans. Since summer 2026 there is also an MCP server, so you can let AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT use your time data.

There are apps for the web, macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. In April 2026 Harvest got a new look. Over the summer it added a custom report builder and the option to lock timesheets. A built-in AI assistant has been announced, but is not available yet.

Harvest lists its prices as "from". That is not a formality.

Free is for 1 user with 2 projects, with time tracking, invoices, expenses and the Mac and iOS apps. Teams costs $ 11 per user per month, or $ 9 a month when paid yearly ($ 108 a year). Enterprise costs $ 17.50 per user per month, or $ 14 when paid yearly ($ 168 a year). Enterprise Plus is custom. Paying yearly saves 20%.

On top of the per-user price, Harvest charges for extra projects, clients, tasks and invoices based on usage. How much that costs is not on the pricing page. For that, Harvest refers you to its help centre.

Two more things to know. You cannot remove users in the middle of a billing period; that only happens at the next period. And paying by invoice or via ACH is only possible with 10 or more users paying a year in advance.

If you also want to plan who works on which project and when, there is Harvest Forecast. It is a separate product with its own subscription: $ 5 per person per month when paid yearly, or $ 6.25 a month.

You can try every paid plan for 30 days, without a credit card. If you do not upgrade afterwards, your trial account is deactivated. Your data is kept, though.

According to Harvest, data is encrypted at rest and in transit, and everything runs on Google Cloud. Backups are kept for up to 180 days. Harvest does not say in which region the data is stored. Harvest has PCI DSS certification for payments, but according to its own security page it does not store payment details itself.

Toggl Track is the other time tracking app already in this guide. Choose Toggl Track if you mainly want simple time tracking and create invoices elsewhere.
